Originally from Brighton in the UK, Mark has been working in recruitment since 2012. Starting out in IT recruitment working for an executive search firm Mark decided to make the move to Australia in 2014. Since joining Barton Mills, Mark has been able to use his IT and Digital recruitment experience and knowledge to manage the delivery practice for BMR.

What do you like about working at Barton Mills?

I was initially interviewed by Barton Mills as a candidate for their IT clients. I was instantly impressed with BMR’s market knowledge and credibility. I felt in safe hands (which is pretty important when you’re “fresh of the boat”). The more we spoke, the more I knew that working for them directly was my preferred choice by a country mile!

A very close team, a fun office environment with lots of perks (Footy team, PT Sessions, Beer fridge!) keeps me motivated on a Monday morning.

What do you enjoy about working in rec 2 rec?

What I have really enjoyed in the Australian market is the high level of trust and integrity Barton Mills shares with both clients and candidates. I feel we offer genuine value and to clients and candidates. When a CEO asks for your opinion and advice it’s a great feeling!

If you could give your candidates one tip, what would it be?

Target your approach to finding a new role. Before applying, take a step back… identify what your real motivations are for looking, what type of role is going to interest you and what type of company is going to get the most out of you. A candidate who is clear in what they want makes everyone’s job so much easier!

What did you do before you worked at Barton Mills?

I moved to Australia from the UK in 2014. In my previous recruitment role, I was focused on recruiting Senior IT Sales & Consulting roles for an Executive Head Hunting business across Europe and Asia Pacific.

What do you like to do when you aren’t recruiting?

Outside of the office you will generally find me surfing (badly) at Maroubra, playing 11-aside football or diving at Gordon’s Bay.

If you could be any other occupation in another life, what would you be?

Surf photographer.

I got in touch with Barton Mills after coming across an advert they had placed on Facebook regarding overseas opportunities. I am from Scotland and having done a working holiday in Australia a few years prior I was keen to explore options within Sydney, Australia. 

I had been doing recruitment back home for two years and was interested to see the options available to myself and how my CV weighted against others in the market. I was advised a degree would be beneficial and 1 years experience was the minimum requirement so I hit apply on a “Delivery Consultant” job and was contacted by Mark within a day.

The company I got to the second stage with was my first choice. I then set up regular skypes and met GMs, Practise leaders and who was soon to be, my new line manager. Barton Mills were consistent in checking in with my throughout the process. 

I cannot praise Barton Mills enough for their high level of service, their personal yet strong professional attitude and effort they have made to ensure I have been comfortable and settling into my new role.
